Julia Childinspiration from an icon

She did it before it was cool. Before the Food Network. Before "bam" and "Iron Chef" and The Pampered Chef. At a time when TV dinners and all things pre-packaged were taking the country by culinary storm, Julia was assuring us that yes, you too can make a soufflé. And don't mind that bit on the stove, no one will see it anyway.

You can keep your Emerils and Bobby Flays.  Julia gets it done every time.

The proof is in the pudding. Or in this case, custard.

together at last

Sal stood in line for 2 hours to meet Alton Brown. Was it worth it? Hell yes.  Note the picture that's now taken the place of our wedding photo on his nightstand.

sal's diner

We know this funky little retro place that just opened on our virtual corner where the chef dispenses recipes, advice, and trivia with your order.

He doesn't advertise so not many people know about his place, but that's part of its charm. Haven't you always wanted your own special spot that no one else knows about? Well, what are you waiting for?
