This page is the archive of the "journal" posts from the two RSS feeds (one for the main site, one for the "This Old (Hall) House" portion only). They will frequently mimic each other, but not always; those posts that appear on the TOHH portion of the site will be noted with the Hall House icon.

01.27.07 vote on the bloggies!

My dear and delightful friend, Maryam, has had her dear and delightful blog, My Marrakesh, nominated in the 2007 Bloggies and she's made it to the finals under the "Best African or Middle Eastern Weblog" category because her blog is made entirely of win and casts a spell with every post. Spend a few minutes reading her blog and I guarantee you'll start looking up airline ticket prices to Morocco.  In fact, I defy you -- DEFY YOU -- not to fall into a trance when you read about the house she and her family are building (including a guest house!), the exotic beauty and mystery of her adopted land, all the Moroccan-inspired designs she sees here and there, amazing and fascinating tales of her life, or, my favorite, posts about her wonderful husband and two children kissed by starlight. And possibly, develop a small crush on her. Because seriously, how can you not love someone who writes:

We found a family living in our backyard yesterday. I know that might be hard to believe but stranger things have happened. I once had a call about a single Moroccan mother who had given birth at a hospital and had nowhere to go. I visited with some friends and found Rahma all alone with nothing but the clothes she was wearing. Her baby was wrapped in a towel. I called my husband, and told him to please buy newborn diapers. And so off they both came to live with us for several weeks until we found a long-term home for them. Rahma asked me to name her baby for her, and I named her Noor, which means light. We still visit Rahma and Noor often, and they are both doing really well. Sad story, happy ending. Don't you just love those?

And so now back to the family living in our back yard. Well their plight is considerably less complex because, you see, they are a family of hedgehogs. Another single mother, I am afraid. (What is it with these irresponsible males?) Here is a picture of the two hedgehog babies lounging at our place. The Mom is near by, never fear. So sweet. We are taking donations -- so please send hardboiled eggs by email. Shoukran bazzef.

So won't you please check out her blog and then cast a vote for her?

(Also, if you're looking for some good blogs to add to your blogroll, the bloggies are a great way to find some terrific daily reading. Several of my other daily reads/favorites are also nominated, and in some cases, nominated for multiple categories:  Dooce, Go Fug Yourself, Treehugger, PostSecret, Not Martha, and Daily Kos.)
