making a house a home

We have this wonderful old house that was built in (we think) 1915. We're not sure that's when it was built because the city didn't start keeping title records until 1919 (which is the date on our deed). It might even have been built as early as 1909, as evidenced by the the date and names inscribed on the sidewalk, not to mention the metal ring embedded in the curb in front of the house for horse reins. Incredibly cool, that.

We didn't so much buy our house as fall madly in love with it. And as with any love, we're not always rational when it comes to the place. Somehow, two normal (heh), college-educated, fairly responsible adults have willingly forked over wads of cash that would make a mob boss blush and somehow let ourselves get roped into learning zoning codes and legal jargon. All because of this house.

Love is a beautiful thing.

our dream house

Craftsman style bungalow. Original woodwork and fixtures. Arts & Crafts details. Built-in buffet. Leaded glass window. Full attic and basement. Elevated lot.

For us, perfect. Your mileage may vary.

What? It's not like we carry pictures of the house in our wallets or anything.

this old (hall) house

Turns out, Home Depot, Bob Vila, and HGTV are part of a top-secret cabal that brainwashes ordinary people to believe that they, too, can renovate a house. The Home Improvement Trifecta has already swindled millions of people for billions of dollars.

They must be stopped.
