Hobbes and Smaug rule our house -- nay, our lives -- with sadistic feline glee. Just about every decision hinges on the them, everything from travel to decorating to laundry. If they don't approve, we don't do it.

Oh, we tried. Of course we did. We're tax-paying adults who presumably have the freedom of will to live our lives as we see fit.

We have since been disabused us of this notion.
