03.01.06
steam II

More steam coming off lights on a chilly night downtown.

03.02.06
house colors

YAY!!! We've picked our new house colors. Hall House is about to undergo an extreme makeover!

03.03.06
st. johns pub

This is the ceiling in the main room of the St. Johns Pub, our neighborhood watering hole. I love that we have a neighborhood pub.

03.04.06
astoria

Looking up the hillside of the charming town of Astoria, the town that first bewitched me to Oregon's charms.

03.05.06
youngs bay

Crossing the Youngs Bay Bridge from Astoria to Warrenton.

03.06.06
curtain view

Reminiscing about our coast vacation a few weeks ago....

03.07.06
eye of the beast

Detail on the whale sculpture.

03.08.06
landmark

This whale sculpture is a favorite landmark in Cannon Beach.

03.09.06
astoria-megler

Crossing the entrance to the Columbia, from Oregon to Washington on the Astoria-Megler Bridge.

03.10.06
coffee house

Even though I'm not a coffee drinker, I love this town's penchant for funky coffee houses.

03.11.06
bay view

More pictures from our coast vacation. This is standing on the Washington side, looking across the mouth of the Columbia to Astoria.

03.12.06
sands at sunset

Looking down the Seaside Promenade at sunset.

03.13.06
magnolia

This is a blossom on the magnolia tree outside my office. I had to ask our landscape vendor to look it up to find out what kind of tree it was.

03.14.06
magnolia tree

And here's the actual tree.

03.15.06
bird's nest

I've never seen the birds that built this nest, but I hope they still live there.

03.16.06
brick still life

I love old brick walls like this. Many restaurants and businesses in town are in old buildings, and they often leave the bricks exposed.

03.17.06
tgif

This is my Friday telecommute from our neighborhood coffee house. It's a rough life.

03.18.06
anna banana's

And that's the name of our neighborhood coffee house.

03.19.06
chauffeur

Sal driving so I can take pictures. Try to ignore the horrifyingly dirty windows in the background.

03.20.06
ice light

For some reason, this candle holder put me in mind of a glacier.

03.21.06
ruggedly handsome

Seriously.

03.22.06
a murder of crows

Yes, that's really what a group of crows is called. Knowing that, this picture takes on a more ominous tone.

03.23.06
parlor view

We were finally able to move our desks away from the dining room window out into the middle of the room and create a seating area at the window. Hobbes approves.

03.24.06
hand warmer

Haven't had a picture of the cats for awhile.

03.25.06
evening glow

Or the bridge, for that matter.

03.26.06
lilac, part 1

One of the two lilac bushes my mom gave us as a housewarming gift. They're now taller than Sal.

03.27.06
lilac, part 2

The second of the two lilac bushes. This one grows as many as five heads of lilacs on the end of every branch.

03.28.06
lilacs, part 3

Taken at dusk, when the light makes them seem slightly faded and their scent is the most powerful.

03.29.06
lilacs, part 4

We planted them off the corner of the front porch so we'd be greeted by the scent whenever we went in or out our front door. The smell is heavenly.

03.30.06
makeover

Our houses new makeover has begun.

03.31.06
azalea explosion

We inherited four well-established azaleas and a mature rhododendron. We have three azaleas this color, all in the rockery, and this time of year, they positively explode with color.
